Far Reaching Ministries Blog

One of the most difficult things about living and ministering in Uganda is being so far away from our family. As I write this I am sitting in the Schiphol Amsterdam airport with my son Judah. Lynne and the girls are still in the States with her parents. Judah and I traveled back early so I could get back to work, and prepare for the year ahead. We were in the States over the holidays and into the new year. As FRM missionaries we try to come back an average of one month per year, and this makes being away easier to bear. It's still really hard though, especially because we have the only grandkids on both sides of the family, and we are very close to our parents. Fortunately, our family is very supportive of what we are doing, and we all trust in God's will for us—He knows best. Like Moses, we are trying to look ahead to our reward (See Hebrews 11:26) Almost daily Lynne and I are reminded of the dialog between Peter and Jesus:

Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. (Mark 10:28-30)

Believe me, if it wasn't for the call of Christ, and the promised reward, we would not be missionaries in Africa! With His call however, we have a great deal of joy and satisfaction.

You are a big reason why we are still here too. I hope you know that. Speaking frankly, we would not be able to survive in a foreign country without your prayers and financial support. Every month when we hear of your generosity (especially in financially tough times) we thank God. Your work and labor of love on our behalf helps us to press on, and fight the good fight.

Please continue to pray for us in the new year. Especially pray that we would be able to overcome the feeling of sadness being far away from our family. I know it will all be worth it in the end!

Well, Judah and I are about to board the plane to Uganda. It will be another nine hour flight...I hope we both get some sleep! We will continue to write in the new year. I hope you are blessed by what God is doing in Africa!

Love,
The Kellys (Brian, Lynne, Judah, Julia, & Liana)
